Purpose-driven nonprofits provide much needed global resources that make a positive, life-changing impact on the communities they serve. Over the course of several months, our agency had the opportunity to create unique community profiles that showcased the success of the AmeriCorps public health program. The goal of the storytelling efforts was to share innovative and successful models that have been developed over the past few years to boost America’s public health workforce.

The focus of these community-based programs was diverse, and it was important to capture the individual stories for those who serve on behalf of Public Health AmeriCorps. One example was a man named Lewis who had been incarcerated for 20 years and after being released, now serves as an AmeriCorps member and provides service to his community. Another member was driven to join and help the aging population of Puerto Rico as he watched his grandfather grow old.
“It was a privilege to be a part of the storytelling efforts for this program and it was one of the most rewarding projects I’ve been involved in. My favorite part of the process was the production stage — being onsite and hearing the personal stories and impact of each location.”
–Mark Sorensen, Creative Director
Our agency team guided our clients through the process of showcasing these program results to secure more funding to help other communities and continue growing the public health workforce. Some topics and members were sensitive and required a trusted team to lead the process and guide all stakeholders involved. Our agency determined the conceptual framework for the content, identified the list of subjects to be interviewed, prepared all materials for interviews, scouted locations, managed production crews and planned for logistical challenges should they arise.
The assignment was complex and involved managing the content strategy and video production for multiple geographies across the United States and territory of Puerto Rico. It also required senior level collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, including two nonprofits, grantee host sites and the various marketing and communications liaisons representing each organization. For our team, being on location in the community and capturing the stories first-hand helped the storytelling come to life. Our team of producers, creatives, writers and film production crew were on the ground at each of these host sites to interview, gain insight and capture the compassion of program members tackling the nation’s most pressing challenges.
